Why our food looks, tastes, and costs what it does

Freshness, Colors & Value

A quick look at how we keep meals fresh without preservatives, how we count nutrition differently, and why we stack up so well against takeout.

  • Nitrogenreplaces the oxygen at the time of sealing
  • 14 daysof freshness, up to
  • Zeropreservatives added

Fresh, without preservatives

Cold items like our salads are sealed using a process that replaces the oxygen inside the package with nitrogen. That shift naturally slows bacterial growth, which is what gives these items up to two weeks of freshness without a single preservative added.

Colors, not calories

Instead of counting calories, we count colors. Every ingredient in a meal that brings its own distinct set of nutrients counts as one color — so purple carrot and purple cabbage, for instance, each count separately, even though they're the same color, because they nourish you differently.

The higher the color count, the more nutrient-dense the meal. It's a simple way to choose what you need in the moment:

3 colors

Want something lighter for breakfast?

Look for a lower color count, like a 3.

8 colors

Need a heartier dinner?

Reach for a higher count, like an 8.

Either way, you're nourishing your body instead of just cutting calories.

Time is an ingredient too

Compare us to cooking from scratch at home, and yes, real ingredients cost something.

But compare us to takeout or delivery — which is who we're actually up against on a weeknight — and in most cases we come out ahead on both price and quality.

Part of what you're paying for is time: no grocery run, no prep, no cleanup, and no guessing what's actually in it. We think of that time as an ingredient, right alongside the food itself.

We make as much as we can from scratch — down to details like:

  • Our mayonnaise made from 100% extra virgin olive oil.
  • Our tortillas made from just four ingredients: European butter, imported Italian flour, sea salt, and baking powder.

So what am I actually paying for?

Real, recognizable ingredients made from scratch, and the hours you get back by not shopping, cooking, or cleaning up yourself.
